THE LAST WORD Q. What is your favorite thing about attending a security industry trade show (particularly ISC West)? I have many meeting up with old friends; fnding out what is new and emerging in technology and market trends; hanging out in Vegas; and making new friends and contacts. A home run is identifying or learning about a product or service that makes economic sense, performs as advertised and provides another layer of protection at work thus justifying the expense of the show. The networking, seeing some familiar faces, meeting new people, gaining insights into technologies I dont use (now), and seeing whats hot in our industry. Its the best of both worlds: professional socializing. 58 By far my favorite part of any security trade show is the opportunity to interact with my security colleagues. Each show brings together a broad spectrum of professionals that work in the security feld. In my own case, I always walk away with 3 to 5 contacts that I reach out to after the show. My favorite thing is seeing demos of the newest security technology. SECURITY TECHNOLOGY EXECUTIVE April 2013 As a security professional with over 35 years of military, federal and commercial experience, I treasure the growth and maturity of the products. More importantly, being at ISC West allows me to see the growth that many security professionals have made over the years. In the global environment we work in today, one must be engaged in the industry, participate in networking, stay in tune with new technology, and, by the way, do their day job. ISC West covers all the bases in a couple of days. Its a centralized venue to absorb the current state of the industry products, companies, people, trends and thought leadership. www.SecurityInfoWatch.com
